慶應義塾大学経済学部卒業後、コーネル大学ホテル経営大学院修士課程修了。1991年、星野温泉(現・星野リゾート)社長(現・代表)に就任。現在の運営拠点は、ラグジュアリーリゾート「星のや」、温泉旅館「界」、リゾートホテル「リゾナーレ」、都市観光ホテル「OMO(おも)」、ルーズに過ごすホテル「BEB(ベブ)」の5ブランドなど国内外で51か所に及ぶ。
